Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican artist best known for her self-portraits. Her paintings are strongly influenced by Mexican folk culture, and use lots of bright colours and dramatic symbolism.
Frida was proud of her Mexican heritage. She was inspired by traditional Mexican art which is wonderfully colourful, bright, patterned, symbolic art. It is full of feathers, flowers, dancing, music, and texture. Frida was also a collector, including a toy collection that held 40 dolls that she designed in her own image.

Facts About Frida
Frida grew up in a house called La Casa Azul (the Blue House) with her parents and 6 sisters, her house - La Casa Azul - is now a museum! Frida's father was of German ancestry, and her mother was Amerindian.
Frida created one hundred and forty-three paintings, and of these, fifty-five are self-portraits. She played a hugely important role in helping to revive traditional Mexican culture - including changing her birth year to 1910, three years after her actual birth in 1907, to coincide with the start of the Mexican Revolution!
Frida’s work has inspired artists to reveal their emotions, inner-turmoil, fantasies, and viewpoints - she endured a great struggle and she fought through it.

Always Artsy Lottie also loves to draw, paint and create. One of her favourite activities is going outside to find cool new things to draw, including the array of red, yellow and orange leaves in the Autumn, the incredible variety of blues and greens of the ocean, and seeing all the beautiful oranges, pinks and purples of the sunset!
"At school, we’ve been learning about some of the world’s most famous artists. There are just so many ways to express yourself! I really like Beatrix Potter’s wildlife drawings but I’d love to be a painter when I grow up.
My pictures don’t always turn out quite the way that I was expecting. Yet. But being bold, getting creative and experimenting with different styles is always fun.
PS: There's winning artwork from my art competition inside!"
